Resume Example
- A resume example from a Product Manager who received offers from Microsoft in 2019.
- Not a perfect resume but I would like to highlight a few things in colours that help you to write an effective resume.
[1] Format
- Don’t worry too much about searching for fancy, colourful, complex templates. Just make sure your resume is clear and easy to read. It is easy to navigate for all readers.
[2] Write accomplishments with X-Y-Z
- Most of your accomplishments are written using as a base the X-Y-Z formula (shared by Google recruiters)
- “Accomplished [x], as measured by [y], by doing [z]”
- Try to follow it as close as possible, but don’t be afraid to your own style into it (as long as you can share your contribution and achievement)
[3] Use strong verbs (red)
- Try to start every accomplishment with a verb in the past tense.
- Strong verbs like (Led) >>> Soft verbs like (Assisted)
- Try to use verbs relevant to your role.
[4] Relevant Keyword or Skills (blue)
- Notice how this resume don’t have a “Skill section” of full of PM keywords like “cross-functional”, “leadership”, “prioritization”, and “roadmap”?
- The keyword in blue are embedded in the accomplishments. By showing the context of how you used those skills you will help customers, your team, and the organization.
[5] Show your impact (yellow)
- Not every accomplishment has to have an impact, but try to add as many as you can.
- Anyone can “complete a project in time”, but not everyone can “complete a project in time by doing [xxx], and having an impact on [yyy]
- If you really hard to think of impact, think about: what it is that without YOU it wouldn’t have been possible. What did it cause (impact)? How did you measure what happened?
[6] Technical Skill (green)
- Write down all the technical skills that you know and can show some ‘proof’ (such as certificate, etc.) Many of these should taken from the job descriptions you are applying.
[7] Other stuff keep in mind
- 1 page resume is most common. 2 – 3 might not the ideal page number for a resume, except you do have a lot of experience.
- Triple-check for grammar/spelling mistakes.
Focused on clarity, systems, and thoughtful digital experiences.
